What you are doing is the way everybody works and it is not a
centralised system as such (Each host runs its own Rivendell software,
only the DB & Audio storage is centralised), nobody has any intention of
breaking that model. 

What is being discussed here is the possibility of (for example) having
an rdairplay running on one host generate audio output from a central
machine instead of generating audio output locally (But to re iterate,
we are NOT going to break your central DB & Audio store model, this is a
potential extra trick, not something that is going to replace what works
now). 

What you are doing is standard, common and a useful way of working, we
do not plan to break it.
